Editorial: Fred Thompson for U.N.

The conservative Weekly Standard offers up a choice to replace John Bolton as ambassador to the U.N.: “Law & Order” star Fred Thompson, the former Tennessee senator. “He’s tough, well versed in national security, extremely articulate and would be a forceful public advocate for the president’s policies,” Daniel McKivergan writes. “Democrats would be hard pressed to deny him an up or down vote on the Senate floor.” One drawback: Thompson has been critical of intelligence agencies, and that could raise a few objections. He’ll also take come convicing to jump back in the political fray. In addition to “Law & Order,” Thompson plays Ulysses S. Grant in “Law & Order” creator Dick Wolf’s upcoming HBO miniseries “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.” At a Washington event this week, Thompson had some advice for lame duck members of Congress: “Get your agent all lined up.”
