Dems in Power: Big Congloms Stifled?

Should the Dems gain control of the House, B&C’s John Eggerton suggests that media conglomerates may have a much more difficult time getting the FCC to relax media ownership rules, a move that the commission is now studying. Michigan’s John Dingell would like sit atop the House Energy and Commerce Committee and Ed Markey would head the House Telecommunications subcommittee. But according to a survey of lobbyists, a House switchover may mean that broadcasters could get some relief in their requirements that they switch over to digital in February, 2009. Meanwhile, given all of the changes that have been happening to traditional media, New York Times’ Richard Siklos wonders what all of the fuss is about.
