IATSE generates funds for gubernatorial candidate
The Int. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees has raised over $75,000 for California Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides.
The below-the-line union, representing over 40,000 IATSE members in California, generated the funds this week at a meet-and-greet with state treasurer Angelides at IATSE Local 80 headquarters in Burbank.
IATSE president Thomas C. Short introduced Angelides at the event, which drew over 200 attendees, citing the candidate’s position on protecting working families rather than special interests. “Phil Angelides is a man who envisions a state with even more jobs in the entertainment industry, with first-class schools, with affordable health care for working families and protections for our environment,” he added.
IATSE endorsed Angelides, who trails incumbent Arnold Schwarzenegger in polls, in February prior to his victory in the Democratic primary over state controller Steve Westley.
In his remarks, Angelides reiterated support for below the line workers and maintaining union pension and health plans.
