Group's free TV webs, feevees will be b'cast online

COLOGNE — ProSiebenSat.1 group has inked an Internet protocol TV (IPTV) deal with local telecommunication provider HanseNet.

The group’s five free TV webs, as well as its new pay TV stations, will be broadcast online over HanseNet’s grid under the brand name “Alice.”

ProSiebenSat.1 previously struck IPTV agreements for Germany with T-Online and Telefonica, and in Austria with Telekom Austria.

“IPTV completes the ProSiebenSat.1 group’s triple play,” CEO Guillaume de Posch said. “It means that our stations are on every network available today.”

The handling of IPTV rights is widely debated these days in Germany, following the sale of the soccer league rights for IPTV to Deutsche Telekom. At a fraction of the cost, the IPTV license could to a large extent devaluate the free-TV soccer rights acquired earlier by cable TV provider Unity/Arena.
