Playboy gets Sirius radio biz

Audio channel tops 1 mil subs in first three months

Sex sells, even without visual aids.

Playboy Radio has shot past 1 million subscribers on Sirius Satellite Radio as a 24/7 audio channel after only three months of operation.

The most popular programs are “The Playboy Radio Morning Show,” which focuses on the style and culture of the monthly magazine; “The Playmate Hour”; “Afternoon Advice,” a live call-in show that provides information and entertainment; and the radio version of the Playboy TV mainstay “Night Calls,” another advice show.

Playboy Radio has exclusive rights to broadcast the inaugural Fame Awards, with fans voting for their favorite adult stars. Sirius will broadcast a tape of the event, which took place Saturday at the L.A. Convention Center, on Playboy Radio starting this Saturday.

Earlier this month, Sirius Canada also launched Playboy Radio.

Sirius tries to keep adolescents away from Playboy Radio by forcing subscribers to opt in, i.e., to call or email the company to gain access to the channel, which carries no extra charge.
