L.A. Sheriff's Dept., MPAA conduct series of raids

Pirates are getting ready to join Paramount in rolling out “Mission: Impossible III.”

In a series of raids Thursday, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department and Motion Picture Assn. of America found inserts for bootleg versions of the weekend tentpole that pirates are undoubtedly planning to record at midnight screenings and start duplicating today.

Seizure was the first of several MPAA is planning as part of a “Summer Blitz” to crack down on piracy around the world that spikes along with the season when most Hollywood blockbusters open.

Thursday raids in Los Angeles found $1.2 million worth of duplication equipment and pirated copies of pics such as “United 93,” “Akeelah and the Bee,” “The Sentinel” and “Ice Age: the Meltdown.”
