Zakim new veep of corporate public relations

Showtime Networks has hired Stuart Zakim as Gotham-based VP of corporate public relations, a newly created post.

Zakim is a PR veteran with close to 30 years’ experience, most recently as head praiser for American Media and its 22 magazines. He’s also held top PR jobs at Wenner Media, Playboy Enterprises, Universal Pictures and Columbia Pictures.

Reporting to Richard Licata, L.A.-based exec VP of corporate communications for Showtime nets, Zakim will start with a focus on getting the word out about Showtime’s 30th anniversary in July.

Licata said Zakim will be crucial in working on the campaigns for Showtime’s original series such as “Weeds,” “Sleeper Cell,” “The L Word” and, beginning in the spring, “The Brotherhood,” among others.

Zakim is also attuned to what Licata called “the various technological innovations sweeping the television industry,” which Showtime will employ “to distinguish ourselves within this competitive environment.”

The PR work under Zakim’s umbrella encompasses new-media initiatives, research, sales, marketing and affiliate activities.
