Inside Move: Gotham pulls permits

City stops issuing prod'n scouting tags

Scout this! It’s a meter.

Gotham’s production swell is hitting New Yorkers where it hurts — parking. To keep neighborhoods “film friendly,” the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theater & Broadcasting says starting June 30 it will stop issuing production scouting tags — little gems of permits that let scouts park anywhere, anytime.

Also, all existing permits will expire.

Some 250 pics were shot in New York last year, up 35% from ’04, as aggressive packages of tax incentives, free advertising, vendor discounts and other perks continue to lure filmmakers — and to swell the scout population.

And “there was abuse. People were not using them for scouting the way they should have been,” said city rep Julianne Cho. “We’re looking to proactively manage this.”

She stressed that the mayor’s office will keep issuing permits to essential production vehicles with shooting permits.
