Global TV looks to U.S.

Fall showcase focuses on primetime heavyhitters

Global Television pulled out all the stops Wednesday, showcasing a fall schedule packed with high-profile goods picked up at the recent L.A. Screenings that the web hopes will help it overtake rival CTV.

“Our team’s buy included a selective acquisition of programs hand-picked by each of the Big Four U.S. networks as priorities with the greatest breakthrough potential — positioned in key timeslots, with all-important hit series lead-ins,” said Kathleen Dore, prexy of Global parent company CanWest MediaWorks.

On the primetime front, Sunday is the night for all things dysfunctional and domestic, with the Calista Flockhart-Rachel Griffiths starrer “Brothers & Sisters” following adult toons “The Simpsons,” “American Dad” and “Family Guy,” as well as “The War at Home.”

Fox dramas “Standoff” and “Vanished” will run back to back on Monday after “Prison Break.” NBC’s “Friday Night Lights” has been paired with “House” and “Gilmore Girls” on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the ABC drama “Six Degrees” has been slotted between “Bones” and “Kidnapped” from NBC/Sony, and the James Woods starrer “Shark” will follow “Survivor” and “Deal or No Deal” on Thursday.

Midseason entries include hourlong dramas “The Black Donnellys” and “Day Break” and half-hour laffer “The Winner.”

Global TV also announced a smattering of new homegrown fare, including anthology series ” ‘Til Death Do Us Part”; “Class,” a one-hour drama about university life; and the hourlong primetime European co-production “Quill,” about a counterterrorism operative. None of it has been scheduled yet.

Programs from the web’s homegrown documentary strand include “Lost Boys,” “Breaking Ranks” and “The Man Who Fought Back.”
