CNN has been ordered to pay almost £250,000 ($470,000) to a London-based producer-reporter who won a case against the company for unfair dismissal.
Elena Cosentino, 34, was a staffer at CNN’s London bureau for more than six years, but was fired after telling her bosses that a medical condition made her unable to work continuous overnight shifts.
A local employment tribunal ruled last week that CNN must pay her $463,982 overall, which includes more than $188,000 for loss of earnings up to March 2010.
In August, when Cosentino won her case against the news web, the tribunal criticized CNN for its “highly insensitive management.”
A company spokeswoman said the case raised management issues that will be given due consideration.
