C4 reups Ramsay in $9 mil pact

Four-year deal a blow to rival network ITV

Blighty’s tough-talking celebrity chef, Gordon Ramsay, whose “Hell’s Kitchen” reality show crossed the Atlantic to air on Fox, has inked a deal reportedly worth £5 million ($9 million) to remain at Channel Four, the U.K.’s commercially funded pubcaster.

The four-year deal is a blow to rival network ITV, which wanted to use the abrasive kitchen guru as part of its attempt to modernize main web ITV1.

Ramsay’s best-known C4 show is “Kitchen Nightmares,” in which he attempts to turn around failing British eateries; he owns restaurants in London, New York, Tokyo and Dubai. He plans to open restaurants in Florida and Los Angeles this year.
