Lawyer honored in BevHills

Ken Ziffren was honored Thursday night as entertainment lawyer of the year by the Beverly Hills Bar Assn.

Award, presented annually, is the most prestigious honor for entertainment lawyers. The Beverly Hills Bar Assn. has the biggest entertainment section of any bar group in the world.

Ziffren and Skip Brittenham founded their firm in 1979. Now known as Ziffren, Brittenham, Branca, Fischer, Gilbert-Lurie, Stiffelman, Cook, Johnson Lande & Wolf, their Century City firm is one the country’s premier entertainment firms doing transactional work for a vast group of talent.

Ziffren, 65, gained renown for his work as a mediator in the 1988 WGA strike. He has represented numerous television production companies and DreamWorks. Ziffren negotiated pay-per-view agreements with the studios on behalf of DirecTV and pay movie channel agreements on behalf of Starz!, and he assisted Microsoft in forming MSNBC.

Ziffren is an adjunct professor at the UCLA School of Law, teaching courses in network television and motion picture distribution.
