Ron & Kelly Meyer

President-COO, Universal Studios; activist

Green cred: The Meyers have been involved with Heal the Bay, Bay Keepers and the NRDC, organizations that fight water contamination by examining source pollution in Santa Monica. The couple helped the orgs raise money for a myriad of things, including water-testing the Santa Monica Bay.

The Universal topper has overseen his studio’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3% between 2004 and 2012, which is part of GE’s Ecomagination initiative. U’s theme park recently replaced its diesel tram engines with low-emission models that are 40% more fuel efficient.

Focus: Water issues. Kelly is currently fighting the building of a liquefied natural gas terminal off the coast of Malibu/Oxnard. In addition to her water work, she drives a biodiesel vehicle.

Latest battle: Working with Heal the Bay and Bay Keepers to establish a marine-protected area on the West Coast.

Eco mantra: “We are all part of the problem and we all need to be part of the solution,” says Kelly. “The learning curve to living the perfect environmental life — leaving no imprint on our environment — is steep. But every action we take towards the goal is what will make all the difference in the world.”
