Leonardo DiCaprio

Green cred: About eight years ago, DiCaprio became interested in environmental issues but wasn’t exactly sure what element he wanted to take on. After a White House meeting with Al Gore, he chose to focus on global warming. Since then, he’s become a board member at the Natural Resources Defense Council and Global Green USA. He’s creating a green-themed reality show for ABC, and he’s also made two short films (“Global Warming” and “Water Planet”) that are viewable on his environmental Web site ( He actively supports political candidates with strong environmental agendas.

Focus: Global warming.

Latest battle: “I’m working on a documentary called ’11th Hour,’ ” DiCaprio says, “which will be out in the spring of 2007. It’s a review of the state of our planet and the inextricable ties we have to its life support systems. It will go beyond ecosystems to include a discussion on the economy, politics and energy, and will explore how we can change course in the short time we have.”

Eco mantra: DiCaprio, who says he doesn’t like to preach, quotes Buddhist philosopher Daisaku Ikeda on his Web site: “A great human revolution in just a single individual will help achieve a change in the destiny of a nation, and further, can even enable a change in the destiny of all humankind.”
