Laurie David

Producer, writer

Green cred: David is a trustee of the Natural Resources Defense Council and has been honored by orgs such as Riverkeeper and Children’s Nature Institute. She has produced a string of successful docus on the subject of global warming, including Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth,” “Earth to America!” for TBS and “Too Hot Not to Handle” for HBO. This year, she won the Woman of the Year Award from Glamour magazine for her green-friendly efforts.

Focus: Global warming. When David became a mom, she started reading up on the subject, with books such as Keith Bradsher’s “High and Mighty.” The more she learned, the angrier she got. Since then, David fights the battle against global warming not only in the realms of pop culture (on her husband Larry’s skein “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and in her new book “Stop Global Warming: The Solution Is You — An Activist’s Guide”), but at home as well. She drives a hybrid, uses canvas bags for shopping, and created a “no idle” rule at her child’s school.

Latest battle: David founded the Stop Global Warming Virtual March with Sen. John McCain and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to raise awareness about the seriousness of the issue. The virtual march spreads the word about the threat of global warming and the necessary steps everyone must take in order to heal the planet.

Eco mantra: “Do one thing. I really believe if you change one thing, you are likely to change two or three things. Pick something and do it. And then get someone else to do it, too.”
