YES pitches ‘Yogi & a Movie’

Hall of Famer Berra will host sports pix on cable net

The YES Network, the 3½-year-old regional sports channel owned by the New York Yankees, has bought its first movies, creating a weekly primetime showcase called “Yogi & a Movie.”

Hosted by Hall of Fame Yankee catcher Yogi Berra, series kicks off Thursday with the original “The Bad News Bears” (1976), starring Walter Matthau.

The setting for the intros will be the theater at the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center in Little Falls, N.J., where Berra and co-host Bob Lorenz, the YES studio man, will discuss the movies during breaks.

Other titles in the mix include “The Natural,” “A League of Their Own,” “Bang the Drum Slowly,” “The Jackie Robinson Story,” “Jim Thorpe: All American” and “Major League: Back to the Minors.”
