WCVB prez to retire

Fine will replace La Camera at end of the year

BOSTON — Paul La Camera, president of Hearst-Argyle ABC affil WCVB, has announced he will retire from the station he has helped define.

His successor is Bill Fine, a former VP/general sales manager at the station who has been general manager at WBAL-TV in Baltimore since 1998. Fine will serve as WCVB’s VP/G.M. effective Aug. 1, while La Camera will finish out his contract through the end of the year, upon which time Fine will become president.

La Camera joined the station when it went on the air in 1972, and has risen through the ranks, becoming station manager in 1988, and VP/G.M. in 1994. He was named president of the station in 1997.

The announcement indicated he will continue his connection with the station following retirement in an undefined consulting capacity.
