BANGKOK — Bangkok-based Chaiyo Prods. has pacted with Chinese and local partners to co-produce a 52-part “Project Ultraman” skein, costing $2.6 million.
Chaiyo is a subsidiary of Tsuburaya Chaiyo, which owns the exclusive rights to all “Ultraman” comic superhero characters worldwide, excluding Japan.
Rui Shi Culture Developing from China, which is based in Guangzhou and is the licensed “Ultraman” distributor in the mainland, will stump up 40% of production costs, while 50% will come from Chaiyo. The remaining 10% will come from Apex Toys, an exclusive licensee of the “Ultraman” toy products in Thailand.
Filming will begin in China in August and will take eight months to complete. The first series will be shown in Thailand and China.
Pheerasit Saengduenchai, CEO of Chaiyo, hopes “Ultraman” will become as popular as Japan’s “Pokemon” cartoon characters.
