Syndies jump on sweeps

Syndie ratings jumped during the week of April 25-May 1 as May sweeps began on Thursday, April 28. Thirty-six of the top 40 strips saw increases from the previous week, and the other four held even.

All talkshows saw ratings rise. Top percentage gainers were “Ellen” (up 18% to 2.0), “Montel Williams” (up 14% to 2.5), “Jerry Springer” (up 14% to 2.4) and “Dr. Phil” (up 10% to 5.7).

All of the newsmagazines were up, except “Extra,” which was even at 2.1. “The Insider” (up 13% to 2.6) earned the biggest increase in that category.

Biggest off-net sitcom gainer was “Malcolm in the Middle,” up 10% to 3.2.

Daytime HUT levels were up by 1.2 million households, or 3%, from the previous week.
