Rice, O'Brien, Finch will be pitted against regular 'Joes'
Spike TV has commissioned Clear Channel Entertainment TV to produce 10 hourlong episodes of “Pros vs. Joes,” a reality show pitting retired star athletes like Jerry Rice and Karl Malone against three regular guys.
“This series,” said Sharon Levy, senior VP of alternative programming for Spike, “will answer the age-old question every guy is thinking: If I got the chance, could I prove I’m a better athlete than” future Hall of Famers like Rice (football), Malone (basketball), Jenny Finch (Olympic softball), Brandi Chastain (soccer), Dave Stewart (baseball) and Dan O’Brien (Olympic decathlon). Show premieres in April.
Each week, three Joes will test their skills in a variety of challenges against a team of five Pros, who’ll perform in a number of different competitions. In the final episode of the season, the best-performing Pros square off against the best of the Joes for “the ultimate sports-fantasy prize package.”
Executive producers are Scott Messick, president of Mass Media; Joe Townley, prexy of Clear Channel Entertainment; and Michael Yudin, president of MY Entertainment. Levy is exec producer for Spike TV.
