Sony buys up sitcom powerhouse

MUMBAI — Sony Entertainment Television has expanded its reach in India. Holding company SET Satellite (Singapore) acquired Hindi-lingo channel SAB TV from Sri Adhikari Brothers Television Network on March 14 for around $13 million.

The deal, which includes 20% of the SAB library, will give SET access to local award-winning sitcoms, a genre SAB TV has made its own.

SAB TV will produce serials for SET for the next five years for $16.7 million.
