Solid start for NBC’s ‘Jury’

A special preview episode of “Law & Order: Trial by Jury” led the 10 o’clock hour Thursday, but CBS claimed the night thanks to powerful perfs by “CSI” and “Survivor,” according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

From 10 to 11, “Law & Order: Trial by Jury” (6.2/17 in adults 18-49, 17.1 million viewers overall) won out over a repeat of CBS crime drama “Without a Trace” (5.1/14 in adults 18-49, 14.9 million viewers overall) and a new edition of ABC’s “Primetime Live” (2.8/7 in adults 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall). “Trial” slides into its regular Friday-at-10 slot tonight.

CBS dominated at 8 with “Survivor: Palau” (8.5/23 in adults 18-49, 21.8 million viewers overall) and at 9 with a repeat of “CSI” (8.5/21 in adults 18-49, 25.5 million viewers overall).

NBC ran a distant second in the opening hour with repeats of “Joey” (3.8/11 in adults 18-49, 9.3 million viewers overall) and “Will & Grace” (3.9/10 in adults 18-49, 8.9 million viewers overall) and improved but remained second at 9 with “The Apprentice 3” (6.9/17 in adults 18-49, 14.8 million viewers overall).

Fox, with a a pair of “The OC” repeats, and ABC, with two hours of “Extreme Makeover,” weren’t a factor on the evening.

Preliminary adults 18-49 averages for the night: CBS, 7.4/19; NBC, 5.6/15; Fox, 2.2/6; ABC, 2.1/6; UPN, 2.1/5; WB, 0.6/1.

In total viewers: CBS, 20.7 million; NBC, 13.7 million; ABC, 8.6 million; UPN, 5.5 million; Fox, 4.8 million; WB, 1.4 million.
