Adaptation to bow this year
MIAMI — As part of a telenovela format push into Europe, FremantleMedia has sold Colombian sudser “El Autentico Rodrigo Leal” (The Real Rodrigo Leal) to Spain’s Antena 3 for local adaptation.
It will be produced by Fremantle’s Gruny Prods.
Invento developed the original idea and script, with Teleset producing for Colombian broadcaster Caracol Television. The Colombian version has been exported to 10 countries in Central and South America and the Caribbean.
The adaptation for Spain will bow this year, marking the third Latin American sudser that FremantleMedia has remade for Europe.
Currently it’s producing two soaps for Germany. “Betty la fea,” originally produced by Colombia’s RCN, is airing on Sat 1 as “Verliebt in Berlin,” while “Bianca” has been adapted for ZDF.
Separately, Fremantle has announced the first international sale of its U.K. hit reality show “X-Factor.” It will go to RCN.
Blighty’s ITV1 has ordered a second season, which is already in production, Fremantle said.
Colombia’s Caracol bowed its adaptation of Fremantle’s “The Apprentice” in June.
The format, known locally as “El aprendiz: nada personal, son negocios” (The Apprentice: Nothing Personal, It’s Business), attracted 50,000 wannabe apprentices.
