Sharif to make small screen bow

CAIRO — Omar Sharif is to star in his first TV series, set to film in his homeland, Egypt, this March.

Sharif has signed with government broadcaster Egypt Radio and TV Union (ERTU) for the $2.2 million project, tentatively titled “Sympathy and Nostalgia.”

He will play an architect living in the U.S., remembering his early life in Egypt.

Skein will be helmed by Magdi Abu Amira and written by Inas Bakr, who had Sharif in mind.

It’s skedded for delivery in October 2006, to coincide with Ramadan.
