Sci Fi Channel seizes ‘Ring’ saga

Pic will air on cabler in March as 'Dark Kingdom'

Sci Fi Channel has nabbed Tandem Communications’ hit fantasy-adventure miniseries “Ring of the Nibelungs,” Germany’s most successful TV movie of 2004.

Loosely based on the Germanic myth about the magic ring of the Nibelungs and the Nordic Volsunga Saga, pic will air on Sci Fi Channel in March under the title “Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King.”

Kristanna Loken, Alicia Witt and Benno Fuermann star in the mini, which was directed by Uli Edel (“The Mists of Avalon”) for German web Sat. 1.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release “Dark Kingdom” on DVD in the U.S. following its Sci Fi premiere.

Tandem is partnering with the Sanitsky Co. and Ludlum Entertainment on an adaptation of Robert Ludlum’s spy thriller “Covert One: The Hades Factor” for CBS.
