'Polizeiruf 110' nabs top prize for drama
Pubcaster ARD was the big winner at this year’s German TV Awards, held Saturday in Cologne.
ARD’s “Maria’s Last Journey,” about a farmer dying of cancer, won prizes for TV movie, actress (Monika Bleibtreu), supporting actor (Michael Fitz) and music.
Thesp Sebastian Koch won for his portrayal of Third Reich architect Albert Speer in ARD’s two-parter “Speer and Hitler: The Devil’s Architect.”
The pubcaster also nabbed the award for crime drama series for its long-running “Polizeiruf 110.”
Other winners for ARD were helmer Hermine Huntgeburth for “The Boxer and the Hairdresser,” lenser Ngo The Chau for “Tatort — Scheherazade” and supporting actress Birgit Schade for “Katzenzungen.”
Commercial web RTL Television won the series award for weekly cop drama “Abschnitt 40” and drew the sitcom nod for its long-running hospital farce “Nikola.”
Daily series prize went to Sat. 1’s telenovela smash hit “That’s Life.” Web also snatched kudos for its improvised comedy series “Schillerstrasse.”
The seventh annual German TV awards were presented at a red-carpet gala, broadcast Sunday on commercial channel Sat. 1.
RTL TV aired the German Comedy Awards on Friday. “Schillerstrasse” won in several categories, including Cordula Stratmann for female comedian.
Sven Unterwaldt’s box office hit “7 Dwarves” received film kudos, and standup comic Helge Schneider was honored for lifetime achievement.
