BUENOS AIRES — Arsonists burned down a set of telenovela “Salvame Maria” in San Luis, Argentina, on May 24, the latest violent protest against the province’s film program.
The attack happened around 2 a.m. when at least two hooded and armed men forced their way past security guards and on to the set of the novela, which Red Lojo Entertainment is producing. There were no injuries.
It was the second attack on Red Lojo since May 9, when demonstrations broke out against Gov. Alberto Rodriguez Saa’s $10 million a year program for financing films and TV programs in San Luis.
Protesters want the money spent on education and public health.
Red Lojo has received funding for “Salvame” and “Arbol de fuego,” the freshman directing effort of Oscar-winning art director Eugenio Zanetti (“Restoration”).
