NBC Sports has engineered an extension of its deal for the Ryder Cup golf event and the Senior PGA Championship, locking up exclusive TV rights through 2014.
Separately, Outdoor Life Network has landed exclusive rights to carry the 2007 America’s Cup after ESPN had carried it since 1983. The event’s modest ratings caused ESPN to pass on renewing it, but OLN said it would cover many of the qualifying regattas leading up the the final America’s Cup, from June 23 through July 7, 2007, from Valencia, Spain.
The Ryder Cup, which pits the best golfers from America against the best of Europe in match competition, takes place every two years, the next from County Kildare, Ireland, from Sept. 22-24, 2006.
The next Senior PGA Championship will be played at the Tree Golf Club in Edmond, Okla., from May 22-28, 2006.
On the America’s Cup, OLN has the air time to present more live coverage of the final America’s Cup throughout the two weeks of competition.
