Nets’ net says YES to Jackson

NBA vet will be Albert's broadcast partner

The YES Network, the 24/7 sports regional available to viewers in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, has signed Mark Jackson as analyst for all of the 81 regular-season games of the pro-basketball New Jersey Nets.

Coming off an 18-year career as a star point guard in the National Basketball Assn., Jackson will be the broadcast partner of Marv Albert, who’ll do play by play on about half of the Nets’ games. Ian Eagle, the Nets’ play-by-play man in previous years, will be the main substitute for Albert when he’s calling NBA games every Thursday night for TNT and doing the national radio broadcasts of “Monday Night Football” for Westwood One.

Jackson, who was a communications major at St. John’s U. in Queens, did studio work on NBA games last season for ESPN; he also worked as color commentator for three NBA games on ESPN, including a playoff game between San Antonio, the eventual world champions, and Denver.

John Filippelli, president of production and programming for YES, engineered the signing of Jackson.
