TV actor Ponce dead at 27
MEXICO CITY — Mexican actor Edgar Ponce was killed and three other thesps critically injured in a motorcycle crash while filming early Thursday morning.
The actors, part of live theater show “Solo para mujeres” (For Women Only), were being filmed with five other cast members on a Mexico City freeway for a promo that was to air on Televisa’s evening variety show “No manches” (No way).
A car uninvolved in the recording crashed into the mounted actors. Ponce, 27, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital.
Roberto Assad Martinez, Armando Gonzalez Sanchez and Marco Mendoza Ramirez are in critical condition. The driver of the car, suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, was arrested. According to reports, none of the actors wore helmets.
Ponce had appeared in six telenovelas and a miniseries prior to working on the live show, a sexy song-and-dance program.
Untimely death of a Mexican TV thesp is the second in less than a week. On April 29 actress Mariana Levy, 39, died of a heart attack when four men allegedly carrying guns approached her car while stopped at a red light.
