Germany’s cartel authority on Wednesday paved the way for the merger of regional cablers Ish and Iesy, creating Germany’s second-largest cable group.
Ish operates in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia; Iesy covers the state of Hesse. Together, they reach 5.3 million customers.
Germany’s largest cable op, Kabel Deutschland, has nearly 10 million customers.
Antitrust watchdogs also approved a plan from Euro investment group BC Partners to take over Ish, owned by Deutsche Bank and Citigroup.
KDG tried to takeover Ish, Iesy and regional cabler Kabel BW in Baden Wurttemberg in 2004 but was blocked by cartel authorities.
