Beer-guzzling Homer Simpson has gone on the wagon.
“The Simpsons” has been cleaned up for Arab consumption by satcaster MBC, which launched the hit animated series as the jewel in its Ramadan lineup earlier this month.
Now called “Al-Shamshoon,” MBC’s version features the voices of Egyptian thesps Mohammed Huneida and Hanan Turk.
Homer Simpson becomes Omar Shamshoon, while Bart is Badr.
Beer and pork have been nixed to avoid offending Muslim sensibilities, as have references to religion, a regular satirical target.
Local reception is mixed. Many Arab audiences across the region already had access to the English-language version through satellite.
