‘Home’ where aud is Sunday

A two-hour episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” combined with solid sampling for new laffer “Jake in Progress” to lift ABC to an easy victory on Sunday in key demo categories, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

From 7 to 9, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (5.8/15 in adults 18-49, 14.3 million viewers overall) overwhelmed the competish, peaking with a 19 share in its final half-hour. John Stamos comedy “Jake in Progress” (5.5/12 in adults 18-49, 12.9 million viewers overall) kept the net on top from 9 to 10 in younger demos with a special preview episode prior to the skein’s move to its regular Thursday-at-8 slot this week.

NBC ran second on the night, paced by a strong delivery at 9 for “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” (5.4/12 in adults 18-49, 15.7 million viewers overall), which feasted on lesser-than-usual competish on ABC and CBS. Also for the Peacock, the timeslot premiere of “The Contender” (2.7/7 in adults 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall) ran fourth for the 8 o’clock hour in 18-49, although it moved ahead of Fox’s “Arrested Development” at 8:30 (3.1/7 vs. 2.9/7).

At 10, NBC’s “Crossing Jordan” (4.5/11 in adults 18-49, 13.3 million viewers overall) defeated ABC’s “Boston Legal” (4.2/11 in adults 18-49, 11.3 million viewers overall).

For CBS, “60 Minutes” (2.6/8 in adults 18-49, 12.6 million viewers overall) and “Cold Case” (3.6/9 in adults 18-49, 16.5 million viewers overall) both placed second to “Home Edition” in key demos, but “Cold” stood as the evening’s most-watched program overall. From 9 to 11, though, original pic “Saving Milly” (1.8/4 in adults 18-49, 8.8 million viewers overall) came in about 40% below the net’s Sunday movie average this season (3.1/7).

Fox was paced by an original episode of “The Simpsons” at 8 (4.0/10 in adults 18-49, 8.7 million viewers overall) but didn’t do much at 9:30 with the series premiere of “The Sketch Show” (2.4/5 in adults 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall).

Preliminary adults 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 5.3/13; NBC, 3.7/9; Fox, 2.9/7; CBS, 2.5/6; WB, 1.1/3.

In total viewers: ABC, 13.2 million; CBS, 11.7 million; NBC, 11.2 million; Fox, 6.3 million; WB, 2.6 million.
