‘Grey’s,’ ‘Home’ power ABC

Morning Ratings Flash -- Rick Kissell

ABC has won its sixth straight Sunday to start the season as original episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” combined with a repeat of “Desperate Housewives” to win easily.

“Grey’s Anatomy” (7.6 rating/20 share in adults 18-49, 17.1 million viewers overall) was the night’s top-rated program, down just 10% from its prior-week’s score despite airing this week behind a repeat of “Desperate Housewives” (5.7/13 in 18-49, 14.8 million viewers overall). Also for ABC, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” ruled at 8 (6.8/16 in 18-49, 16.8 million viewers overall) and “America’s Funniest Home Videos” was the top non-sports choice in the opening hour in key demos (3.2/9 in 18-49, 10.5 million viewers overall).

NBC’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” (4.3/10 in 18-49, 13.8 million viewers overall) moved up at 9 opposite the “Housewives” repeat, logging its best rating since March. “West Wing” (2.4/6 in 18-49, 8.7 million viewers overall) was slightly above average but still fourth at 8, and “Crossing Jordan” (3.7/9 in 18-49, 12.5 million viewers overall) ran second from 10 to 11.

CBS didn’t have much bite with its original movie “Vampire Bats” (projected 2.3/5 in 18-49, 6.9 million viewers overall), and Fox’s repeat lineup was paced by “The Simpsons” (4.6/11 in 18-49, 9.2 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 5.8/14; Fox, 4.1/10; NBC, 3/8; CBS, 2.6/6; WB, 1.3/3.

In total viewers: ABC, 14.8 million; NBC, 10.6 million; CBS, 10.1 million; Fox, 8.9 million; WB, 3.1 million.
