Brazil’s leading net TV Globo has snagged exclusive broadcast rights to the Oscars from rival net SBT, which has aired the kudocast for the past five years.
Move follows a major programming package deal Disney inked with Globo at January’s NATPE that did not include the Oscars.
No. 2 net SBT’s output deal with Disney expired in December and was not renewed.
Globo will show highlights from the initial part of the ceremony and air the final part live to avoid interfering with its profitable Sunday evening programming, which includes “Big Brother Brasil 5.”
Paybox TNT will air the entire Oscar ceremony.
