World Brief

MUMBAI — India’s media conglom Zee Telefilms plans to launch a global English-lingo news channel with an Asian perspective by the end of this year.

“While CNN sees news from the American point of view and BBC from the British point of view, our channel will see global events with an Asian point of view,” Zee chairman and managing director Subhash Chandra says. “We are planning to tie up with a leading Asian network for the new channel.”

Zee owns more than 20 satellite channels, including two 24-hour channels devoted to general news and business news.

Chandra adds that the channel will target the Indian diaspora and also try to corner a share of the rest of the global audience.
