World Brief

Feevee Galaxy Satellite Broadcasting is tripling its reach in its native Hong Kong by joining with Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) to deliver its broadcasts over the latter’s broadband network.

Deal will offer Galaxy’s 34 pay TV channels to a combined 1.8 million homes in Hong Kong.

Offerings will include programming from Hong Kong’s TVB, a Galaxy shareholder and the world’s largest producer of Chinese-language TV programming.

Coverage could reach 2 million Hong Kong homes by the end of the year, the two companies said in a statement Thursday.

Move heats up competition for cable viewership, with Galaxy now engaging rivals Hong Kong Cable Television and PCCW Ltd.’s NOW cable broadband service.
