Morning Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

The combination of “American Idol” and an improving “House” dominated Tuesday’s primetime ratings race, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

“American Idol” (11.8 rating/30 share in adults 18-49, 28.3 million viewers overall) was on par with last week and again outperformed the other five broadcast networks combined in adults 18-49 during the 8 o’clock hour. Medical drama “House” followed at 9 with its best numbers to date (5.2/12 in adults 18-49, 12.9 million viewers overall), winning its hour across the board.

CBS placed second on the night, paced by solid results for the penultimate episode of “Amazing Race 6” (4.6/11 in adults 18-49, 11.8 million viewers overall), while NBC led the night’s final hour with a repeat episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (4.2/11 in adults 18-49, 10.4 million viewers overall).

Over at ABC, “NYPD Blue” picked up slightly as it nears its series finale in a month (3.3/9 in adults 18-49, 10.6 million viewers overall). And the net’s middle-hour comedies “According to Jim” (3.9/9 in adults 18-49, 10.1 million viewers overall for a repeat) and “Rodney” (3.6/9 in adults 18-49, 9.5 million viewers overall) topped firstrun segs of NBC’s competing comedies “Scrubs” (3.6/9 in adults 18-49, 8.2 million viewers overall) and “Committed” (3/7 in adults 18-49, 7 million viewers overall).

Preliminary adults 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 8.5/21; CBS, 3.4/9; NBC, 3.3/8; ABC, 3.2/8; WB, 2.1/5; UPN, 1/2.

In total viewers: Fox, 20.6 million; CBS, 11.6 million; ABC, 9.1 million; ABC, 8.4 million; WB, 4.5 million; UPN, 2.5 million.
