Fox takes Tuesday again

Morning Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

Fox continued its unstoppable Tuesday run last night, dominating at 8 with “American Idol” and also winning easily at 9 with “House,” according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

From 8 to 9, “American Idol” (11.5/30 in adults 18-49, 26.9 million viewers overall) outperformed the other five broadcast nets combined by 20% in adults 18-49, grabbing roughly four times the demo score of second-place CBS entry “NCIS.” And “House” (5.7/14 in adults 18-49, 14.4 million viewers overall) followed with another strong perf, winning by 5 shares in adults 18-49 over ABC’s comedy block of “According to Jim” (3.8/9 in adults 18-49, 9.7 million viewers overall) and “Rodney” (3.5/8 in adults 18-49, 8.9 million viewers overall).

NBC ruled at 10 with “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (5.6/15 in adults 18-49, 13.8 million viewers overall), vaulting the net to second place for the night despite fourth-place finishes in the 9 o’clock hour with “Scrubs” (3.1/8 in adults 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall) and “Committed” (2.7/6 in adults 18-49, 5.9 million viewers overall). Of course, the comedies got no help from their ill-matched “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” repeat lead-in, which placed fifth in the 8 o’clock hour (1.4/4 in adults 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall).

At CBS, “NCIS” was a solid but distant second at 8 (2.9/7 in adults 18-49, 13.4 million viewers overall), and a “Dr. Phil Romance” special at 9 ran third in 18-49 (3.5/8) and second in total viewers (11 million).

Preliminary adults 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 8.6/22; NBC, 3.3/8; CBS, 3.1/8; ABC, 3/8; WB, 2/5; UPN, 1/3.

In total viewers: Fox, 20.6 million; CBS, 11.7 million; ABC, 8.5 million; NBC, 8.1 million; WB, 4.7 million; UPN, 2.4 million.
