ESPN launches Spanish-lingo net

Coverage includes U.S., Latin American sports

ESPN Deportes, a 24-hour Spanish-language sports feevee, launched on Echostar with Sunday’s live transmission from Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium of the regular-season game between the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers.

ESPN Deportes tapped ex-NFL player and Mexican native Raul Allegre as a commentator/analyst. He was assisted by ESPN sportscaster Alvaro Martin.

In addition to U.S. sports coverage — NFL, NBA, baseball, PGA — in Spanish, ESPN Deportes airs Latin American and European soccer coverage, baseball from the Dominican Republic and Mexico, tennis and more.

Net’s sports-show programming includes its own, original version of SportsCenter, produced in Spanish for U.S. auds.
