Sports and entertainment TV group EM.TV has nixed paybox Premiere’s offer to buy its free-to-air sports chan-nel DSF.
Premiere recently bought pay and free TV rights to UEFA Champions League soccer and said it planned to buy a terrestrial channel or launch a new web to showcase the free TV league matches.
EM.TV’s DSF, a sports channel, was the obvious candidate. While EM.TV appeared open to negotiations, EM.TV topper Werner Klatten said DSF is not for sale.
“Sports make up more than 80% of our business,” Klatten told German daily Berliner Zeitung. “DSF is of vital importance to our sports division.”
Premiere has canceled a contract with EM.TV’s sporting event produc-tion company Plaza Media worth $50 million a year. Execs insist the two events are unrelated.
