“The Tony Danza Show,” a syndicated live talkshow that Buena Vista TV has renewed for a second season, has landed an upgrade in Chicago that will propel it from a post-Jimmy Kimmel time period on WLS to a noon timeslot on WMAQ, beginning in the fall.
Although WLS is a sibling of Buena Vista, the station had no decent time period available to the Danza show when it premiered in September. By relegating Danza to latenight, WLS did considerable damage to the show’s ratings in Chicago.
A slot on the NBC-owned WMAQ opened up late last week when Twentieth TV pulled the proposed daily hourlong talker “The Suze Orman Show” from the marketplace even though the station had committed to it for the 2005-06 season.
According to BV’s researchers, many of the stations that play “Danza” between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. have shown Nielsen gains season to date compared to the same period a year ago.
