MONTREAL — Chum Television has laid off 27 full-time and nine part-time technical staffers at its five stations in southern Ontario, known as the New Net, as it centralizes operations at its Toronto HQ and in London, Ontario.
Restructuring will add nine positions in London and six in Toronto.
“The decision to reduce staff is always difficult. However, it is important to take advantage of new technologies and processes to reduce operating costs,” said Peter Palframan, VP of finance and administration.
The one-time cost of the changes will be approximately C$730,000 ($588,000); net annual operating-cost savings are projected to be $242,000.
Changes will not affect on-air programming.
