BSkyB high def to include DVR

Service due to bow in 2006

LONDON — Satcaster BSkyB’s planned high-definition service, the first in Blighty, will include sports, movies, entertainment and documentaries, plus a digital video recorder in the HD TV box.

Service, announced last year, is due to bow in 2006.

Speaking at the DVB World conference in Dublin on Wednesday, BSkyB chief exec Richard Freudenstein said he hopes the upgrade will help BSkyB achieve its target of 10 million subscribers by 2010. Sky is in just over 7 million U.K. homes but its growth has been slowed by competition from digital terrestrial platform Freeview.
