Alphabet rolls on Sunday

Morning Ratings Flash -- Rick Kissell

There’s no touching ABC on Sunday nights this season, as the net dominated with “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” “Desperate Housewives” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” with each program up week-to-week.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “Desperate Housewives” (11.2 rating/25 share, 25.5 million viewers overall) towered over the competish at 9 and will again stand as the week’s No. 1 telecast in the 18-49 demo. “Grey’s Anatomy” (8.6/21 in 18-49, 18.6 million viewers overall) hit season highs at 10, and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (6.5/16 in 18-49, 15.6 million viewers overall) easily led its hour in all under-55 categories.

Reliable prelims weren’t available for Fox’s primetime, which included the end of one baseball game and most of another. The Chicago White Sox-Los Angeles Angels game averaged a 9.1 household rating/14 share in Nielsen’s metered-market overnights.

Numbers are similarly murky for CBS, which had a roughly 55-minute NFL overrun leading off the night and opted to start its entire lineup about an hour later than scheduled.

NBC was led by “Crossing Jordan” (3.6/9 in 18-49, 11.2 million viewers overall), while its “West Wing” continues to struggle at 8 (2.3/6 in 18-49, 8.1 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 7.4/18; CBS, 3.9/10; Fox, 3.4/8; NBC, 2.7/7; WB, 1.2/3.

In total viewers: ABC, 17 million; CBS, 13.5 million; Fox, 10.6 million; NBC, 9.3 million; WB, 2.9 million.
