ABC hot on typical Sunday

Morning Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

ABC’s powerhouse trio of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” “Desperate Housewives” and “Grey’s Anatomy” dominated their slots again on the second Sunday of the season, lifting the net to an easy victory.

From 9 to 10, “Desperate Housewives” (11.8 rating/26 share in adults 18-49, 26.7 million viewers overall) impressively held onto nearly all of its week-earlier premiere ratings, with its 26 share in the demo topping the 24 put up by the other four networks combined. “Grey’s Anatomy” (8.3/20 in 18-49, 18.0 million viewers overall) and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (5.8/15 in 18-49, 14.2 million viewers overall) also rolled.

Fox ran second on the night thanks in part to an NFL overrun, which led into a repeat of “The Simpsons” (4.9/13 in 18-49, 10.2 million viewers overall) and an original “The War at Home” (4.2/10 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall). A repeat of “Family Guy” placed second in demos at 9 (4.4/10 in 18-49, 8.6 million viewers overall), as did an original “American Dad” at 9:30 (3.8/8 in 18-49, 7.4 million viewers overall).

NBC was paced by “Crossing Jordan” at 10 (3.9/9 in 18-49, 12.3 million viewers overall), which was above average with the first half of a crossover storyline involving tonight’s “Las Vegas.”

And CBS looked good at 8 with “Cold Case” (3.9/10 in 18-49, 16.3 million viewers overall) but then fell off with original movie “Mayday” (2.6/6 in 18-49, 10.3 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 7.1/18; Fox, 4.7/12; NBC, 2.9/7; CBS, 2.8/7; WB, 1.1/2.

In total viewers: ABC, 16.8 million; CBS, 11.8 million; Fox, 10.1 million; NBC, 9.7 million; WB, 2.7 million.
