HOLLYWOOD — Audiences in L.A. and Gotham flipped for Thai boxer Tony Jaa on Feb. 3 and Feb. 9, respectively, at screenings of Jaa’s chopsocky pic “Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior.”
“Having a Thai film in America makes me so proud,” Jaa said at the Hollywood ArcLight unspooling, after jumping more than 6 feet into the air and kicking a tub of popcorn out of an assistant’s hand. He then proceeded to leap up and knock over an assistant with his knees, in a move that resembled “Matrix”-like CG animation.
Also on hand to promote the pic was Wu-Tang Clan member and Jaa fan RZA, who played a big part in promoting the pic.
RZA and Jaa subsequently reteamed in Gotham for a screening at the mammoth AMC Empire cinema in Times Square. An after-party followed at Lot 61.
