‘Lies’ lights London

'Separate' bows at U.K. film festival

LONDON — Oscar-winning scripter Julian Fellowes (“Gosford Park”) presented his helming bow, “Separate Lies,” at the Mayor of London Gala Oct. 24, part of the Times BFI 49th London Film Festival.

When asked by fest director Sandra Hebron why he’d decided to direct after a successful career as a thesp and scripter, Fellowes said: “You can’t spend your whole life cleaning the brushes. At some point you want to paint.”

Fellowes was joined at the screening and the party at the National Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square by pic’s thesps Tom Wilkinson, Hermione Norris, David Harewood, John Warmaby and Linda Bassett.

Co-star Emily Watson, couldn’t make it; as she’d given birth just a few days before.
