‘Kinky’ to the ‘Max

'Boots' gets Brit bow

LONDON — New Miramax topper Daniel Battsek got a hero’s welcome upon returning to Blighty Oct. 4. for the world premiere of Brit comedy “Kinky Boots,” at Vue West End, Leicester Square.

Battsek, who greenlit “Boots” during his previous guise as BVI U.K. topper, admitted it felt “weird to be returning to London as a tourist.” He also noted how appropriate it was that the new Miramax’s first major release is a Brit film: “After all, Miramax was built on British movies like ‘The Crying Game’ and ‘Shakespeare in Love,'” he said.

Playing to the home crowd, Battsek joked Variety‘s front-page description of Miramax as ‘Minimax’ was a touch misleading, saying: “We are not that small.”

Post-screening, guests ventured to Soho for an after-party at the Titanic Club, where transvestites strutted their stuff, and kinky boots designed by celebs including Elle Macpherson, Cher, Scarlett Johansson and Jerry Hall were auctioned off in aid of the Elton John AIDS foundation.
