KARLOVY — The Karlovy Vary Film Fest wrapped its 40th-anni edition July 9, putting the cap on the Czech spa resort’s annual international unspoolings with solid increases in attendance, both press and patrons, as well as significant upticks in the glamour quotient.
This year’s fest drew Hollywood celebs including career achievement honorees Sharon Stone and Robert Redford. Filmmakers on hand included Atom Egoyan and Alexander Payne.
Highlights of the fest’s nineday run included the Variety Critics’ Choice: Europe Now sidebar, featuring 20 screenings and a blowout outdoor party for 500 at the town’s venerable Postovni Dvur nightspot. The Festival Band, made up of film fest directors from Warsaw, Sofia and Karlovy Vary’s own Forum of Independents sidebar, contributed rock and soul.
